# Do I need a license for every Google Workspace user?

Yes, Patronum requires a license for every active Google Workspace user in your domain. This ensures consistent security monitoring, policy enforcement, and feature access across your organization.

# Why is domain-wide licensing required?
Patronum operates at the domain level to provide security monitoring, automated policies, and centralized management for your entire Google Workspace environment. This domain-wide access allows features like file sharing governance, user lifecycle automation, and security alerts to work consistently across all users.

# Managing licensing costs
You can reduce costs by excluding certain accounts from your license count:
* **Suspend inactive accounts** — Use Patronum's [offboarding policies](internal://art_01K9WETTE353PP29CHJC4W4HN4) to automatically suspend users and remove their Google Workspace licenses when they become inactive
* **Exclude system accounts** — Contact our team to adjust your invoice to exclude service accounts, bots, or other non-human users
* **Adjust for your organization** — For larger domains or educational institutions, we can work with you to adjust license counts based on your specific needs
